Composition:

Prometil 1 ml Injection: Each 1 ml ampoule contains 12.5mg of prochlorperazine mesylate (1.25% w/v).

Indications:
Prometil is a potent phenothiazine neuroleptic. Prometile injection is recommended in the management of acute vertigo such as is associated with Meniere’s syndrome, nausea and vomiting, migraine and anxiety states. The course of treatment should not normally exceed 2 weeks duration.
In the management of phobias, schizophrenia, acute mania,and similar psychotic reactions.
Recommended Dosage
Adults:
For the management of Meniere’s syndrome, nausea and vomiting: The usual total daily dosage is 10-40mg in divided doses.
In schizophrenia and other psychotic disorders: The usual total daily dosage is 75-100mg in divided doses.
Prometil should be used cautiously in the elderly patients.
Children: Not recommended for use in children.
Solutions for Injections
Nausea and Vomiting: In an established attack where vomiting is troublesome feature and the patient is unable to retain the tablet, deep I.M.injection of 1 ml (1205mg) should be used.
Psychotic illness: The usual daily dose is 75-100 mg along with higher doses has been given. Dosage should be increased gradually from 12.5mg twice daily initially to the effective level: where necessary deep I.M. injection of 1ml-2ml two or three times daily may be given initially.
The amount you will receive will be dependent on the condition to be treated.
Prometil will normally be given by injection into the muscles.
Adults:
For the management of nausea and vomiting due to migraine: The usual dosage is 1 ampoule followed by oral dosage 6 hours later if required. Prometil should be used cautiously in the elderly patients.
Children: Not recommended for use in children.
Schizophrenia: The usual total daily dosage is 1-2 ampoules,2 or 3 times daily.

Pregnancy and Lactation
Phenothiazines should only be used during pregnancy if considered essential by the physician. The drug is excreted in breast feeding should be ceased during therapy.
